Anxiety: Finding Peace in God's Truth

In a world that often feels chaotic and uncertain, anxiety has become an all-too-familiar companion for many of us. We wake up in the morning with a sense of heaviness, our minds swirling with worries about the future, our hearts racing with unexplained dread.

But what if there was a way to find peace amidst the storm? What if we could learn to cast our anxieties onto something—or Someone—greater than ourselves?

You Are Still God’s Child

The struggle with anxiety makes you no less a child of God.
That’s important to remember. The Bible is filled with stories of faithful followers who grappled with fear, worry, and uncertainty.

Take David, for instance. In Psalm 25, we see a raw and honest portrayal of a man pouring out his heart to God:
"Turn to me and be gracious to me, for I am lonely and afflicted. Relieve the troubles of my heart and free me from my anguish. Look on my affliction and my distress and take away all my sins."

David doesn’t hold back. He brings his feelings of loneliness, affliction, trouble, and anguish directly to God. And in doing so, he models for us a profound truth:

The cry of a swirling heart to God honors God. (Psalm 25:16-22; Psalm 94:19)
We don’t need to pretend everything is fine when it’s not. God invites us to come to Him with our anxieties—just as we are.

How Do We Speak Truth to Anxiety?

Speak truth by bringing clarity to the feeling, its source, your request, and your trust. (Psalm 25:1-2,10)

Here’s a practical way to start:
  1. Name your feelings. Instead of suppressing or denying them, take time to identify what you’re experiencing. Are you feeling lonely? Afflicted? Distressed?
  2. Consider the source. Anxiety itself is not sinful, but it can be fed by sin or misplaced priorities—maybe a desire for control or the pressures of comparison.
  3. Bring your request to God. Like David, cry out: “God, be gracious to me! Relieve me! Rescue me!”
  4. Declare your trust. Even in the midst of fear, affirm: “My hope, Lord, is in You.”

Casting Your Cares

Feelings aside, God cares for the humble heart. (1 Peter 5:6-7)

Peter encourages us to “Cast all your anxiety on Him because He cares for you.” The word “cast” is active and intentional.

“Casting” is a well-rewarded activity for the anxious heart.
It’s not passive—it’s a deliberate act of trust, like throwing something heavy off your shoulders and into the hands of a God who is strong enough to carry it.

Even if it feels clumsy—like an inexperienced fisherman—do it anyway. God’s mercy is abundant. He will catch your cares and respond with grace.

The Power of God’s Word

One of the most effective ways to fight anxiety is to fill your mind with God’s promises. As Leanna Crawford’s song reminds us, “Anxiety hates Psalm 23.”

When we anchor our hearts in God’s Word, we gain a weapon against fear and worry.
We can say with confidence:
“The Lord is my shepherd, I shall not want… He restores my soul.”

You’re Not Alone

Overcoming anxiety is often a process—not an instant fix. But remember this:
You have a constant Companion. God walks with you through the valley, and He provides His people to walk alongside you. The church should be a place where we can be honest about our struggles and carry each other’s burdens.

A Heart Commitment

Let the commitment of your heart match the cry of your heart. (Habakkuk 3:17-19)
Even when your emotions scream for attention, choose hope. Choose trust. Choose to keep casting your cares on Him.

His mercy and grace are more than enough to meet your deepest needs.

One Last Reminder

You’re not alone in this struggle. The God who created the universe cares deeply about your anxieties. He invites you to come as you are, pour out your heart, and find rest in His presence.

As Philippians 4:6-7 reminds us:
“Do not be anxious about anything, but in every situation, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God. And the peace of God, which transcends all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.”

So today, take a moment to cast your cares onto Him. Speak truth. Bring clarity. Declare your trust. And let His peace carry you through.
