The Israel Experience

On Friday, January 28 (6pm-9pm) - Saturday, January 29 (9am-4pm), First Reformed Church is hosting a mini-conference titled The Israel Experience. This conference is a weekend of discovery on the lands and story of the Bible, featuring Ronny Simon, 2011 Guide of the Year by the Israeli Bureau of Tourism.

FRIDAY PM (APPROXIMATELY 6-9 PM):
Session 1 | The Lands and Geography of the Bible: How did the location and environment of the Middle East shape the story of Israel?
Session 2 | The Origins of the Jewish Faith: From Abraham to the Judges – How did Judaism begin, what were its claims, and how did life as nomads and slaves play a part?
CHARCUTERIE LUNCH catered by Downtown Grille
SATURDAY AM (APPROXIMATELY 9 AM – 12 PM):
Session 3 | Life in Ancient Israel: What were the earliest forms of Israelite worship, and how did the tabernacle effect the religion of the people?
Session 4 | Jewish Society at the time of Jesus: What was the spiritual and sociological world into which Jesus was born? Who were the players and how did their worldviews interact with early Christianity?
SATURDAY PM (APPROXIMATELY 1-4 PM):
Session 5 | Judaism in the Shadow of Rome: Who were the key political figures in the First Century, and how did Jewish peoples’ desire to be free from Imperial power trigger conflicts in the region?
Session 6 | The Jewish World Today: Which are the different expressions of Judaism practiced today? Where lie their theological roots and what claims do they continue to make in our age?
