The Ascension: Finding Confidence in an Insecure World

Picture this: You wake up Monday morning to a driveway buried under heavy, wind-packed snow. You bundle up, grab your shovel, and spend an hour clearing it. By Tuesday morning, the wind has filled it right back in. Frustrating, right? But by Wednesday afternoon, something remarkable happens—a warm sun melts every bit of that stubborn snow without you lifting a finger.

This simple weather story captures a profound spiritual truth:
What the warm sun does to layers of hard-packed snow, the ascended Son of God does to the layers of insecurity that grip our lives.

When Insecurity Buries Us

We live in a world that seems designed to breed insecurity. We worry about our finances, our relationships, our health, our children's futures. We carry guilt over past mistakes—sometimes even mistakes we've been forgiven for but can't seem to release. We wonder if anyone really sees the unfairness we face, if justice will ever come, if our prayers are heard.

These insecurities pile up like snow in a driveway during a blizzard, layer upon layer, until we can barely see our way forward.

But there's good news—incredibly good news.
The ascension of Jesus Christ isn't some obscure theological concept.
It's the pathway to a deep-seated confidence that can melt away our insecurities and replace them with unshakeable peace.

No Question Who’s in Charge

There is absolutely no question who is in charge of this universe.

Before Jesus ascended to heaven, He made a stunning declaration:
"All authority in heaven and on earth has been given to me." (Matthew 28:18)

Not some authority. Not most authority.
All authority.

The Apostle Paul reinforces this truth in Philippians:
"God exalted him to the highest place..." (Philippians 2:9–10)

Think about what this means for your life right now.
Whatever chaos surrounds you—global turmoil, workplace injustice, family dysfunction, or personal crisis—Jesus reigns over all of it.

Nothing escapes His sovereign care.

Even more remarkably, the Father has "entrusted all judgment to the Son" (John 5:22).

When life feels unfair, remember this:
The ascended Jesus sits in the place of ultimate justice.

No Question He Is Present

The ascension does not mean Jesus is absent.
It means He is present in a deeper way than ever before.

Jesus told His disciples:
"It is for your good that I am going away..." (John 16:7)

His going led to a greater coming.

When Christ ascended, He sent the Holy Spirit—the Advocate, the Comforter, the Helper—to dwell within every believer.

Jesus in a body could be in one place.
The Spirit of God can be present in every heart.

This means:
  • Ascension does not equal absence
  • It equals intimate presence

Peace isn't the absence of trouble;
it's the presence of God in the middle of trouble.

No Question He Helps in Time of Need

Hebrews reminds us:
"Let us then approach God's throne of grace with confidence..." (Hebrews 4:14–16)

Notice this:
“In our time of need.”

Not later.
Not eventually.
Right now.

But here’s the tension:
God’s help doesn’t always look the way we expect.

Sometimes circumstances don’t change.
That’s where trust deepens.

Do we really believe Jesus is in charge?

He sees what we cannot.
His help is always timely—even when it feels mysterious.

No Question About Our Future

The ascension guarantees our future.

Jesus didn’t ascend as a spirit.
He ascended with a physical, resurrected body.

That means:
  • Our future is real
  • Our resurrection is certain
  • Our eternity is secure

When we doubt God’s care, picture this:

Jesus looks at the scars in His hands and says,
“You have no idea how much I understand.”

The One who will judge the world
is the same One who stood in our place.

Will You Approach?

The invitation is simple but profound:

Approach the throne of grace with confidence.

When insecurity piles up…
When doubt creeps in…
When life feels heavy…

Will you look up to the Son who melts it all?

The ascended Christ:
  • Reigns with authority
  • Dwells with intimacy
  • Helps with perfect timing
  • Promises eternal joy

Let the insecurities melt.
The Son is shining.
